If anyone stumbled upon a video on YouTube where the only content is whispering by the creator and making a series of strange noises, then it most probably would be one of the many videos in the popular genre of ASMR videos. Originally it stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, and it describes the type of sensation that is supposed to be elicited by those videos – a pleasant, relaxing and inducing to sleep kind of effect.
The reason I pay attention to it is because of the apparent strangeness of it, and the curiosity of what could be the astrological explanation for it. To me, it resonates strongly with Neptune in Pisces vibes – The induction of sleep, the dreaminess of it, the kind of emotiveness that plunges you into a bath of pleasantness and disconnect from the surroundings and willingness to just unwind, almost like an effect of some kind of drug, of the relaxant (or depressant) kind.
From checking its origins, it seems to have started around the end fo the transit of Uranus in Pisces in 2009, and it took off when Neptune entered into Pisces in the beginning of 2012. Since then the genre grew into a massive trend on YouTube with millions of followers for the numerous creators. It actually resonates best with Uranus in Pisces because it uses technology (sound effects created on the internet) to create a Piscean/Neptunian experience (as Neptune has at least an affinity to Pisces if not rulership, depends on your rulerships scheme, traditional or modern). But it also naturally thrives in the Neptune in Pisces environment, because this combination induces and encourages everything that is symbolized by both – a kind of drug effect that wants to put you to sleep, basically.
As Neptune is about to leave Pisces in 2 years in 2026, it would be interesting to see if this will still be as massive on YouTube as it is now, as the general collective emotional vibe will switch to the opposite “drug” effect – excitability and the induction of energy, as symbolized but the cardinal fiery sign of Aries.
